Drowning

I suck in, and water floods my lungs,
my heart starts pounding, my eyes open wide
I can see the light above me, but can’t get to it.
My arms and legs flail violently,
thrashing for anything to grab or push off of

I can’t help but to suck in another mouthful of water
I can feel the veins in my eyes choking and bursting
I can’t see the light anymore,
I can’t see anything
Calm settles over me as the world begins to fade out
